Serendipity & the algorithm teleport me 36 years in the past.

Yesterday I was browsing the UbuWeb Film & Video page and one of the links I clicked on was Brian Eno. There, a listing for 14 Video Paintings sparked a memory of sitting in our first apartment, watching slow motion video of a woman in a bathtub. So I clicked through and there it was — "Thursday Afternoon." I rented this or got it from the library some summer day in 1990. Here's a section of what I remember. It's vertical because you were supposed to turn your TV on its side to view the piece.

Then this morning, looking for something to listen to, the algorithm suggested the album "Deep" by Peter Murphy (Apple Music, Spotify). That was one of my absolute favorites that year.

Thirty-six years in a second. Fuck me. It hurts that it was that long ago. Our first apartment. The first time I used a video camera and performed in a theater. We turned 21 and 23 that year. Look at these absolute babies.
