Visiting Dylan

Immersive video - handheld, no lighting and no plan. It's an an old school video blog!

I'm an artist working in immersive video. This is part of a series of immersive videos where I'm experimenting and then sharing what I've learned.

Last week I was in Chicago for a few days to visit my daughter and while I was there I captured some immersive video in the most casual way I could. I relied mostly on my Canon R5C (with the dual fisheye lens) + DJI RS4 Mini gimbal + Zoom H3 VR mic. So this video was mostly shot essentially hand-held, with existing lighting and no plan. I've done this type of thing hundreds of times over the last 20 years but shooting in 180° feels completely different. I haven't built up any intuition. I didn't know if anything I shot would work. Thankfully, when I got home and looked at things in Vision Pro I was pleasently surprised. This feels like a decent first attempt.

This video is 180° and 3D. If you have an Apple Vision Pro or Meta Quest headset, you'll get that experience. On everything else you'll get a 2D version that you'll be able to drag around to see outside the frame. This uses my VR180 Web Player that you can get from GitHub.

Note: This is an 8K video file so you'll need a fast connection for it to work. Also, Firefox doesn't always seem to be able to play back HEVC encoded videos.
